Joleon Lescott replaces Glen Johnson in England squad
• Johnson becomes fifth player to withdraw from squad

The Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has become the fifth player to withdraw from the England squad for Wednesday's friendly match with Holland, the Football Association has confirmed. The Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has been called up as a replacement.

Johnson played in the full 120 minutes of Liverpool's penalty-shootout victory over Cardiff City in the Carling Cup final at Wembley on Sunday and, although he trained with England this morning, he then reported a minor problem.

The Football Association has not specified precisely what the injury is, although it is believed Johnson has returned to Liverpool only as a precaution.

Johnson is the second right-back to be ruled out but with Micah Richards, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all capable of operating in the role, Pearce has opted to draft in Manchester City's Lescott, who was a surprise omission in the first place.

It should be nailed on for Micah to get a deserved 90 minutes for England now ?

He may deserve the 90 minutes , but it is bizarre that we are the only top side that are not pulling out players left , right and centre .

Yeah, maybe we should be a little cautious here

So we have chosen to replace a right back with a left sided centre-back. Interesting.
