Tevez : 3 days to decide his future

  • PDF
newtevezThe enigma which is Carlos Tevez continues to pull in column inches in all the papers.   From the Sun to the Guardian we see a daily running commentary.  AC Milan are in for him, AC Milan say they have tried and are now not interested.  PSG throw their hat into the ring, or Inter Milan maybe and Kia, the press and the fans continue to supply fresh impetus to a story which hasn't actually changed for the whole of January.  Similarly the story in the summer that Carlos would definately be leaving but, shock, horror we wouldn't let him leave on the cheap then either.   http://www.mcfcforum.com/latest-news/69-carlos-tevez-remains-at-manchester-city

Manchester City, the club who presently Carlos Tevez is signed up to play for have said Tevez is for sale and they will not let him go cheaply and why should they.  Before the transfer window opened many in the press seemed to believe that because Manchester City have a rich benefactor that the MIlan deal was a formality.  Tevez and his advisors appeared to have done enough to force a move to another club if the press were to be believed.  Why wouldn't it go through, it is only money and the Sheik has plenty to squander but nothing could be further from the truth.  Far from squandering cash on Manchester City they have astutuely invested in the club, the facilities and the surrounding area.

What City have done since the new owners arrived has been to accelerate and develop a plan which had already started.  Adding a large slice of finesse to an already bold format of buying players in order to move the club into a position where it could challenge for European and Champions League football.  Far from frivolously spending money the club and it's backers set out right from the onset a plan to provide Manchester City with some of the best facilities and ultimately the best football in Europe.  A plan which has sparked regeneration projects around East Manchester, consent for a new state of the art youth academy complete with 6th Form college, new facilities for fans to develop the match day experience and make the Etihad stadium a destination where match-days form part of the entertainment.

And then there is Tevez, undoubtedly a superb talent but one which has been proven over the years to struggle to settle for an extended period of time at any club.  Kia has come out and said that a move to West Ham is out of the question as why would City pay part of his wages to have him play in the lower leagues.  This is the same Manchester City he has criticised for not lowering their market valuation of his asset in order that he can be sold abroad.  The club have indicated that whilst want-away Tevez is in Argentina they are not paying his wages with an estimated saving on his wage bill of £9.3 million to date.

His apparent refusal to come onto the pitch on that fateful champions league night has cost him dear but still some of the biggest clubs in Europe would be happy to take a punt on him but apparently only on the cheap.  Whether that divide can be crossed in the last 3 days of this transfer window I am sure will continue to fill column inches.  Carlos Tevez has allowed us one saving grace.  Whilst all attention has been on whether he will go the heat has been taken out of the fact that "Moneybags" City have not spent big in 2012's January transfer window.
